Therapy Dogs at the Murphy Funeral Home

some text

Abbie, our resident therapy dog

We are pleased to offer the services of Abbie, a Dog B.O.N.E.S Therapy Dog, for any of our families that feel a therapy dog would help them through their grieving process. Therapy dogs are specially trained to provide comfort and love to people in various situations, and Abbie has worked many funerals, providing comfort and support that only an animal can provide to grieving families and their friends.

Therapy Dogs can also provide extra support and comfort to those grieving, and can help relieve their stress and anxiety for a little while. This is especially true for grieving children, who may not be comfortable talking about their feelings. Therapy dogs can give them someone to talk to, and can comfort them during an emotional and confusing time. Not only can therapy dogs provide comfort, they can also improve overall mental and physical health. Petting a therapy dog helps to increase serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain, which in turn can help to improve our mood by lowering stress, anxiety and depression. Therapy dogs have an innate sense to find the person in the room that needs their assistance the most, and will often sit with them until they are more at ease.
